Guangzhou is releasing millions of lab-engineered mosquitoes (muỗi) every day to neuter (thiến,

The Guangzhou Wolbaki Biotech Co., Ltd., in partnership with the city’s disease control (kiểm soát bệnh tật) and prevention (phòng chống) bureau, releases about five million lab-grown male mosquitoes daily, which only mate with aedes albopictus mosquitoes to stop them from reproducing disease-carrying offspring. Only female aedes albopictus, also known as tiger mosquitoes, prey on people, potentially transmitting the viruses that cause dengue (bệnh sốt xuất huyết) and chikungunya (bệnh do vi-rút truyền sang người do vết đốt của muỗi vằn Aedes bị nhiễm bệnh), among other illnesses.
