bia tốt hay không tốt?

For decades (thập kỷ), scientists have been studying how alcohol affects our bodies. Some studies have suggested modest (vừa phải, phải chăng, có mức độ) amounts, such as a glass or two of red wine per day, are associated with decreased inflammation (chứng sưng, chứng viêm), improved blood pressure (huyết áp) and a lower risk of death from coronary artery  (động mạch vành) disease.

Research has also linked it to an increased risk of various cancers and reduced brain volume over time.

So which is it — is moderate drinking good or bad?

A team of researchers recently analyzed (phân tích) the connection between genes linked to alcohol consumption and cardiovascular  (bệnh tim mạch) conditions and found that drinking — any amount — was associated with an increased risk of disease.

...this is definitely the best reason to go to Happy Hour every now and then. At this point, every hour is happy hour. In moderation of course.

A 2013 report on Business Insider says that a study has found that those who regularly drink alcohol live longer than those who do not.

Now, before you rejoice (vui mừng, hoan hỉ, hân hoan) and celebrate the news with a case of beer or an entire bottle of wine, take note that this refers to moderate drinkers, meaning those who drink within their limits, because otherwise, you may have an alcohol addiction (nghiện rượu) or are setting yourself up for a series of health issues like liver cirrhosis or cancer. Luckily for you and me, we know when enough is enough.

Researchers, led by University of Texas psychologist Charles Holahan, looked at participants aged 55 to 65 over a 20-year period. They took into account outside factors such as socioeconomic status, physical activity, friends, and social support.

They found that "mortality rates were highest for those who had never had a sip, lower for heavy drinkers, and lowest for moderate drinkers who enjoyed one to three drinks per day." Are you a moderate drinker?
