In sum, most contemporaries (người đương thời, bạn đồng nghiệp) greatly exaggerated (thổi phồng, phóng đại, cường điệu) the heroic achievements (thành tựu anh hùng) of the wartime (thời chiến) socialization (xã hội hóa) of investment (đầu tư), as have subsequent (đến sau, theo sau) historians (sử gia) and economists (nhà kinh tế). In large part, they simply failed to appreciate (đánh giá đúng) how much of the “capital” took strictly military (quân sự) forms. Even the industrial (công nghiệp) investments, however, proved largely ill-suited (không thích hợp) for making a valuable contribution (đóng góp có giá trị) to postwar civilian production (sản xuất dân sự hậu chiến): they were too concentrated (tập trung) in the wrong (sai lầm) industries and in the wrong locations (địa điểm) for postwar purposes (mục tiêu, mục đích). The wartime socialization of investment served a definite purpose in helping the U.S. military-industrial complex to triumph over the nation’s enemies in World War II, but beyond that, its achievements had little, if anything, to recommend them.
