"Mrs. Astor's pet horse" = ngựa cưng của bà Astor -> nghĩa là người ăn mặc lòe loẹt, phô trương, tự phụ. Bà Caroline Astor là phu nhân của nhà tài chính người Mỹ William Astor, nổi tiếng là người có quyền lực với các bữa tiệc xa hoa ở New York vào thế kỷ 19.
