"Background extinction rate" nghĩa là gì?

"Background extinction rate" = tỷ lệ tuyệt chủng bối cảnh -> nghĩa là số lượng loài vật dự kiến tuyệt chủng sau khoảng thời gian do các yếu tố phi nhân tạo.

Ví dụ
If past mass extinctions took nearly three million years to ensue (xảy ra), then we should instead examine how many species go extinct per unit of time relative to the ‘background’ extinction rate that occurs (xảy ra) between mass-extinction events.

Man-made activities such as an increase in pollution, global warming, and greenhouse effect are the reason for the modern extinction. The background extinction rate does not include the human cause but includes the natural (tự nhiên) cause of extinction.

The third way is calculating species survival rate over time. It is necessary to know life span estimates to calculate the background extinction rate. The accuracy (tính chính xác) of this rate is a little unpredictable because it is difficult to calculate the number of species existing in the past as well as the present.
