'Have a foot in both camps' có một từ mới là camp, nghĩa là cái trại hay phe phái. Have a foot in both camps có nghĩa là ủng hộ cả hai phe đối nghịch nhau.

Ví dụ
“There are two competing interests in our city: the developers who favor more construction, and the environmentalists who oppose it. Yet the mayor has figured out (nghĩ ra cách) how to give each of them something they want (chiều lòng mỗi bên). He’s always had a foot in both camps.”

“A friend of mine works for an airline. She was telling me how her company is making financial contributions (đóng góp tài chính) to candidates (ứng cử viên) of the Republican Party. I didn’t understand how it could afford not to give money to the Democrats, too. Then she explained it did; it has a foot in both camps (móc ngoặc với cả hai đảng đối lập).”
