"Squeak by" nghĩa là gì?

Người Mỹ dùng thành ngữ 'to squeak by' khi muốn nói là ai đó là gì chỉ vừa đủ để thi đậu, để thành công, hay để sống còn.

Ví dụ
“I went with my nephew to the Department of Motor Vehicles to take his road test. After he backed up on a curb, I thought the inspector was going to fail him, but he let him try the maneuver again. In the end, he passed by 2 points. Since he received his license by such a narrow margin, I can say that he squeaked by (vừa đủ điểm “lách” qua kỳ thi).”

“I admire my friend Alice. She could have easily chosen a high-paying career. Instead, she took a position with a non-profit organization dedicated to saving endangered tigers. I don’t know how she manages to pay her bills on her meager (ít ỏi) salary. But somehow she squeaks by (xoay sở đủ sống).”
