"Kiss goodbye" nghĩa là gì?

'Kiss goodbye' có một từ mới là goodbye nghĩa là tạm biệt, từ giã. Thành ngữ này chỉ có nghĩa là bắt buộc rời bỏ một điều gì, coi như không còn hy vọng.
Ví dụ
"During the interview (cuộc phỏng vấn), Pat told us about the many years of experience she's had as a manager. The problem is that we've checked her references (lời giới thiệu). And we discovered that she's only been a supervisor for a few months. She can kiss goodbye (từ bỏ) any hope of getting this position (chức vụ)!"
My neighbors were ready to go on a cruise (du lịch bằng tàu thủy) when their car broke down. It would have cost them so much in repairs (đem xe đi sửa) that they decided to buy a new car, which was rather expensive. As a result, they had no choice but to kiss their trip goodbye.
