"A stick in the mud" nghĩa là gì?

'A stick in the mud' có một từ mới là mud nghĩa là bùn lầy. A stick in the mud nghĩa đen là một cây gậy cắm trong bùn, không động đậy gì cả. Vì thế stick in the mud mô tả một người bảo thủ, lạc hậu, không thích thay đổi, và không chịu theo những trào lưu mới.
Ví dụ
When I was a kid my dad used to be such a stick in the mud. But now he rides around in a sports car (xe đua) and takes my mom on exotic (mới lạ) vacations. He’s definitely not boring (tẻ nhạt) anymore.
