"Monday morning quarterback" nghĩa là gì?

'Monday morning quarterback' có từ quarterback là cầu thủ chủ công (trong môn bóng bầu dục), một cầu thủ có nhiệm vụ làm chủ nhịp độ và quan sát toàn sân, là nhạc trưởng của đội bóng, nhưng phải lùi xuống rất sâu để được bảo vệ. Bên trên anh, những cầu thủ tiền vệ khác lao tới húc nhau với đối thủ để bảo vệ cho quarterback, người sẽ chuyền bóng cho một vị trí ở phía trên là 'runner back' ghi bàn. 'Monday morning quarterbak' cầu thủ chủ công sáng thứ Hai, ý nói là người chỉ trích hay gợi ý một hướng hành động khác, thay thế sau khi sự kiện đã diễn ra (vì các trận đấu bóng bầu dục thường diễn ra vào cuối tuần). Việt Nam có thành ngữ gần tương tự là 'thầy bói nói dựa'.

Every police officer’s death is difficult. Some happen in other states or municipalities (chính quyền thành phố) and policemen take a quiet moment to reflect (suy ngẫm). Sometimes it’s only a moment. Sometimes it lingers (quẩn quanh, dai dẳng) a little longer. Other times, it sparks (khuấy động, làm dấy lên) a conversation about tactics (chiến thuật) or a bout (một đợt) of Monday-morning quarterbacking, the act of second-guessing what the slain (bị giết một cách hung bạo) officer did or didn’t do, something you shamefully keep to yourself.

It is a powerful example of the dangers of “Monday morning quarterbacking.”
