“People are looking at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil. They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans and equivocates (nói lập lờ nước đôi) and bloviates (nói dài dòng vô nghĩa).” Fox contributor Rudy Giuliani observed on the same day that in contrast with Obama, Putin was “what you call a leader.” Only if leading your country to economic ruin is a form of leadership. And this is not Monday-morning quarterbacking. It has been obvious for months that Putin was fighting the market, Moore’s Law, Mother Nature and human nature all at once. (by Thomas L. Friedman, NYTimes, 12/2014)

Every police officer’s death is difficult. Some happen in other states or municipalities (chính quyền thành phố) and policemen take a quiet moment to reflect (suy ngẫm). Sometimes it’s only a moment. Sometimes it lingers (quẩn quanh, dai dẳng) a little longer. Other times, it sparks (khuấy động, làm dấy lên) a conversation about tactics (chiến thuật) or a bout (một đợt) of Monday-morning quarterbacking, the act of second-guessing what the slain (bị giết một cách hung bạo) officer did or didn’t do, something you shamefully keep to yourself.

'I think the worst moment in U.S. foreign policy since I’ve been here, as far as signaling to the world where we were as a nation, was August a year ago when we had a 10-hour operation (chiến dịch) that was getting ready to take place in Syria but it didn’t happen.'... There is a great deal of irony (mỉa mai, trớ trêu) in this short account of the Senator’s comments. Senator Corker suggests that if President Obama had ordered this strike (cuộc tấn công), we would somehow be in a better place in Syria today. This argument should be examined carefully. It is a powerful example of the dangers of “Monday morning quarterbacking.”

Don't wait

Don't wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them great. Weak men wait for opportunities; strong men make them.

If you don't fight for what you want, then don't cry for what you lost.

Live your life. Take chances. Be crazy. Don't wait. Because right now is the oldest you've ever been and the youngest you'll be…ever again.
