"Squire of dames" nghĩa là gì?

'Squire of dames' có từ squire là người đi hộ vệ, (thông tục) người nịnh đầm và dame là phu nhân, người đàn bà đứng tuổi; vì thế cụm từ này nghĩa là người hay chú ý đến đàn bà, người hay lui tới chỗ có đàn bà con gái (any cavalier who is devoted to ladies).

Ví dụ
Hatty insisted on mounting the elephant, and of course Timothy was obliged to be her squire of dames, but I am sure he did not really enjoy it.

About wireless communication at sea there has been for years the glamour of romance. The operator has been the dashing, sparkling hero of the well adorned tale; the friend of maritime pilgrims of the night, the squire of dames in distress.

Cope bowed and smiled and stepped toward the tea-table. His head once turned, the smile took on a wry twist. He was no squire of dames, no frequenter of afternoon receptions. Why the deuce had he come to this one? Why had he yielded so readily to the urgings of the professor of mathematics?--himself urged in turn, perhaps, by a wife for whose little affair one extra man at the opening of the fall season counted, and counted hugely. Why must he now expose himself to the boundless aplomb (sự vững lòng, sự tự tin) and momentum of this woman of forty-odd who was finding amusement in treating him as a "college boy"?
