'Spoon-feed someone' (đút ăn bằng thìa) nghĩa là chăm sóc ai đó quá tận tình; và nghĩa khác là chỉ dẫn, nhồi nhét, dạy quá nhiều (đến nỗi không còn để cho họ tự mình suy nghĩ); giúp đỡ tận miệng (provide (someone) with so much help or information that they do not need to think for themselves; to treat someone with too much care or help; to teach someone with methods that are too easy and do not stimulate the learner to independent thinking); các bậc cha mẹ chú ý đừng dạy con bằng cách "cầm thìa đút con ăn".
Ví dụ
The U.S. Government Accountability Office has struck down a company's challenge to the award of a NASA contract for powering spaceflight transportation to a rival, finding in a decision released Wednesday that the agency wasn't required to “spoon-feed” the protester fixes to its bid's shortcomings.
Mentors are like hiking guides. They haven’t always experienced the same paths that you have taken, and they shouldn’t spoon-feed answers to you even if they have. Instead, they need to help mentees overcome their challenges without taking the reins directly. This comes back full-circle to empathy and communication skills - in the form of listening.
“As a writer you hear a constant stream of completely contrary feedback: ‘Don’t spoonfeed your audience’, ‘Don’t forget people are taking the bins out during the show’, ‘Don’t dumb it down’, ‘Don’t be too clever’.”
