'Have one's words stick in one's throat" có nghĩa là quá xúc động tới mức không nói được (to be so overcome by emotion that one can hardly speak); nghẹn ngào không nói nên lời.

I want to tell him I don’t hate his friends, I’m just scared. I want to beg him to talk to me. To help me understand what it’s like to be Jake. But my words stick in my throat—pounded into paste by Mother’s iron fist. We are separate Universes, tumbling down into our solitary darkness’s.

I decide to tell you again. But then you tell me in conversation that your child had serious mental health issues and died by suicide a few years ago. And my words stick in my throat, the sentences recoil and slither back to the pit in my stomach and I realize, I won’t be telling you today.

I realize I am supposed to be offended that they made a game for girls that deals with such trivial matters. But when you’re a young girl, deciding what friendships to foster is a big deal. My words stick in my throat. I want to say how important these games were to me, but I feel ashamed and embarrassed.
