"Breast wheel" nghĩa là gì?

'Breast wheel' là guồng nước đầu nguồn, guồng nước lòng suối (a waterwheel onto which the water is led at about axle height and which acts partly by impulse and partly by the weight of the descending water in the buckets).

There have been some changes since the old days. The mill’s gone from an overdraft wheel system to a breast wheel. And the main wheel is no longer powered by the flow of Rock Creek, whose waters are too unreliable: anemic one day, overpowering the next. Instead, buttons are pushed and switches are thrown to release city water. That’s right: Peirce Mill is run by a giant tap. Because the water is chlorinated, it can’t be released into the creek. So it’s a closed loop, recirculated to power the wheel.
From the storehouses we passed into the factory, and there we were first led to see the huge water-wheel which drives the powerful machinery that is required in the various processes. A large door opened on the site of the wheel-pit, and we stood within a few feet of an immense breast-wheel, 50 feet in diameter, said to be the largest in the world; we could well believe it, as we saw its vast dark beams dripping with cool water drops, and revolving heavily before us, with an appearance of irresistible force which was wholly new.
