"Hand-to-mouth" nghĩa là gì?

'(from) hand to mouth' = từ tay đến miệng -> nghĩa là nghèo đói, làm ngày nào xào ngày ấy (satisfying only one's immediate needs because of lack of money for future plans and investments); giật gấu vá vai, vắt mũi bỏ mồm (vắt mũi đút miệng).

Ví dụ
People are living from hand to mouth. To restrict movement longer than it did could have certainly worsened things for everybody.

Confidence in the property market is growing but a lack of stock means the Hamilton realtors and buyers are still living hand to mouth.

Charities must campaign hard to convince the public that they can do more good by investing in growth than by eking out a hand-to-mouth existence in a constant battle to minimise (giảm tới mức tối thiểu) overheads (chi phí hoạt động).

We know handlers work hand-to-mouth, and they have very expensive overheads. Heathrow must be one of the most expensive places to rent a facility. But we don’t see service levels go up with higher fees – it’s still fairly shoddy (hàng xấu, hàng thứ phẩm, tồi, giả mạo, chất lượng kém).
