"A pretty state of affairs" nghĩa là gì?

"A pretty state of affairs" (từ "pretty" có nghĩa là "khá", trong cụm từ này được sử dụng như cách mỉa mai) ý chỉ tình trạng sự việc hơi "sai sai", rất có vấn đề, gây khó chịu.
Ví dụ
Well, this is a pretty state of affairs we're in now. The client (khách hàng) doesn't like the job we've done, and they want it fixed (sửa) in less than a week.
General (tướng) Miller came into the room; I remarked (chú ý) that this was a pretty state of affairs that we had got into. He answered, yes, it was; but that they were determined (quyết định) to have their rights (quyền); that he believed we were now in the midst of revolution (cuộc cách mạng), and that he would go in for it rather than be cheated (bị lừa dối) of their rights.
A pretty state of affairs every criminal (tội phạm) were to be allowed to select his own place of punishment (hình phạt), and to terrorize (đe dọa) any penitentiary (nhà tù) that had the misfortune (không may) to lack favour (ưu ái) in his sight.
