"Have your cake and eat it" nghĩa là gì?

"Have one's cake and eat it (too)": vừa muốn có cái bánh mà vừa muốn được ăn bánh nữa, nghĩa là muốn được hưởng lợi từ cả hai phía trong khi đó là điều không thể hoặc khó xảy ra. Trong cụm từ này, "have" và "eat" có nghĩa tương tự nhau, đặt trong cùng một câu có vẻ dư thừa; nhưng "have" được dùng theo nghĩa chỉ sự sở hữu, tức là bạn muốn tiếp tục "sở hữu" cái bánh cũng lại muốn "ăn" cái bánh thì rõ ràng đó là điều không thể.
