"Put lipstick on a pig" nghĩa là gì?

"Put lipstick on a pig" = nôm na nghĩa là có thoa son đánh phấn hay trang điểm cho một con heo thì nó vẫn là con heo, không thể nào 'hấp dẫn' hơn được; hành động tạo ra những thay đổi phù phiếm/hời hợt để cái gì trở nên hấp dẫn hơn/thuyết phục hơn.

While the Liberal Party (Đảng Tự do) continues to put lipstick on a pig, nothing has been done to change the structure of politics (cơ cấu chính trị) to encourage a greater range of women to participate. And when women do enter politics, there is very little opportunity (cơ hội) for those women to exercise their agency (cơ quan, sở) in representing (đại diện) the constituents (cử tri) who voted for them in the first place, lest (sợ rằng) they be “ungrateful” (vô ơn).
