"Carve in stone" = khắc vào đá -> biến một điều gì đó thành không thể thay đổi, thường là kế hoạch hoặc ý tưởng, kế hoạch dài hơi.

Ví dụ
Had you been a cunning person (người xảo quyệt), you could have consulted (hỏi ý kiến) a lawyer (luật sư) way back when you started transferring titles and being magnanimous (hào phóng) to your son and daughter. He could have advised you to carve in stone that these properties (tài sản, dinh cơ)—though maybe already in their names— will remain yours, till your last breath.

Why not nominate (đề cử) a new building? A stunning (đáng kinh ngạc) walk or waterborne adventure? An iconic (mang tính biểu tượng) festival or event, or a smaller - but no less mighty experience - like a pint in a particular pub, a food or travel adventure that you believe reflects the spirit of 21st-century Ireland? This isn't a definitive list to carve in stone or fire into space. It's a snapshot of what you think makes an Irish wonder in 2019. It's about creating a buzz, a conversation.

"We wanted it to represent (đại diện) what he actually stood for and what he believed instead of words somebody put in his mouth," said Dulaney. "It teaches people that we must correct mistakes that we make and things that we carve in stone."
