"Raise a hand against" nghĩa là gì?

"Raise a hand against" = giơ một tay lên để chống đối. Theo nghĩa bóng là đấm, vỗ phát, tát ai đó hoặc vật gì để chống đối và đe dọa.
Ví dụ
The Torah (kinh thánh người Do Thái gọi là Ngũ Thư) tells us that after the act of Shimon and Levi, no one dared raise a hand against the Jews (người Do Thái).
Donkeys (con lừa): Anyone who beats a donkey should be locked away for good (nên bị bắt giam, giữ cẩn thận mãi mãi). How can anyone raise a hand against an animal that looks so sad? Poor donkeys (con lừa tội nghiệp) have much to be sad about — their lives as beasts of burden (súc vật thồ), for instance. No wonder some turn mulish (hèn gì nó trở nên bướng bỉnh, cứng đầu).
