"The benefit of the doubt" nghĩa là gì?

"The benefit of the doubt" = lợi ích của sự nghi ngờ -> nghĩa là coi ai là đúng/đáng tin/động cơ tốt khi chưa thể chứng minh ngược lại; 'tạm tin'.

Another sage (hiền nhân), however, understands the verse (câu gốc trong Kinh Thánh, đoạn thơ, câu thơ) as a universal obligation (giao ước chung) to give people the benefit of the doubt. For example, when someone acts rudely towards us, do we reflexively (phản thân) attribute (cho là, quy tội cho) their conduct (đạo đức) to malice (ác tâm) and take it personally? Or do we pause and consider whether there may be extenuating (giảm nhẹ tội) circumstances (of which we are currently unaware) that provide a more benign (nhân từ, lành) explanation for their difficult behavior? The principle of dan l’kaf zechut teaches us to avoid knee-jerk reactions (phản ứng đầu gối mang tính tình cảm hơn là lý trí trước một vấn đề gì đó) and withhold (giấu giếm, từ chối) judgment until we have more evidence about the sources of someone’s troubling comments or conduct.
