"The shit hits the fan" nghĩa là gì?

"The shit hits the fan" có từ "fan" được hiểu cái quạt (không phải "người hâm mộ). Khi "shit" đập vào cây quạt đang chạy, chuyện gì sẽ xảy ra nhỉ? Cụm từ này nói về điều tiếng xấu đột nhiên xuất hiện, gây tranh cãi, như là một "scandal".
Ví dụ
