"Walk on eggshells" = đi trên vỏ trứng -> rất cẩn thận về lời nói hay hành động của mình.

Ví dụ
People can take offense (cảm thấy bị xúc phạm) to different things — to anything. Trying to avoid offending others will cause you to walk on eggshells in any conversation. It will cause you to avoid topics (chủ đề) that some people may find interesting or important, and it will lead us closer to the dystopian world (thế giới đầy thống khổ và bất công) of 1984.

This requires you to hear someone else’s hurt or displeasure (không hài lòng) without responding with anger, mistrust (nghi ngờ), withdrawal or defensiveness (phòng thủ). To do this means that other people will not feel as if they have to walk on eggshells around you. Eggshells diminish (giảm dần) how close you will allow someone to get to you.

Yet Guterres continues to walk on eggshells around the US and other major powers (cường quốc). For example, he has been unwilling (không thật lòng) to publicly condemn (lên án công khai) China’s mass detention (giam giữ) of one million Turkic Muslims in “political education” camps while praising Beijing’s rights-free “Belt and Road Initiative.” The victims  (nạn nhân) of this mass arbitrary detention have reason to feel abandoned by the UN chief, as do victims of severe (nghiêm trọng) repression (đàn áp, trấn áp) elsewhere.
