"A dead cat on the line" (con mèo chết trên dây) là cụm từ dùng để miêu tả một trường hợp mà trong đó có điều gì không đúng.

Ví dụ
“I guarantee you, there’s a dead cat on the line in that psych report,” Adams said. “It probably reveals (tiết lộ) something about this officer that they don’t want the light of day to see.”

It was Story’s third book of prose and her second novel, but apparently, it didn’t sell as well as it should. At all. If this book was so good, why didn’t it sell? There’s a dead cat on the line somewhere here.

Rev. J.M. Gates Rev. J.M. Gates may have coined (đúc kết/ sáng tạo) the popular midcentury phrase "there's a dead cat on the line" to describe a child who, perhaps because of a woman's adultery (ngoại tình), doesn't resemble (trông giống) his father.
