"A lick and a promise" nghĩa là gì?

'A lick and a promise' = liếm môi rồi hứa đại -> giặt giũ, lau dọn vội vã, qua quýt cho xong; làm việc gì nhanh chóng, hấp tấp cho xong (đặc biệt trước deadline); nỗ lực hời hợt, bất cẩn
Ví dụ
Aside from having to clean the bathroom more than once a day - I have two boys - I'm pretty much a "lick and a promise" kind of person when it comes to cleaning. "It'll do" is my mantra (thần chú).
Farmers in my neighborhood, however, spent part of the time pulling their wide 16- and 24-row planters through narrow 24- and 48-hour planting windows to, literally, jam their 2019 corn crops into far-from-ideal ground with what my father often described as a “a lick and a promise.”
Admittedly, my self-described prowess is what my mother would have called giving it a lick and a promise, but I’m the mother now and I can call it what I like, and I call it cleaning. I’ve been known to hang out a full line of clothes and only have to rewind “Kelly and Ryan” a few seconds. I’ve vacuumed (hút bụi) the runners on the stairs and the animal hairs off the couch and not missed a minute of “The View.”
