"Draw a veil over" nghĩa là gì?
Ra cái vẻ thần bí chút chút. Photo courtesy Nick Boileau
"Cast/ draw/ throw a veil over (something)" = che giấu, lấp liếm (bằng cách nói lảng đi, hoặc không nói tới).
Ví dụ
So shameful (đáng xấu hổ) is it you’d think the British would want to draw a veil over it. But not so.
It has often been supposed (thường được cho là) to cast a veil over the personality of a limited company (công ty TNHH) through which the courts (tòa án) cannot see.
Kean’s determination (quyết tâm) to look ahead to a new start (hướng tới khởi đầu mới) in a new country should not, however, be seen as an attempt (nỗ lực) to draw a veil over the recent past.
You can’t be too careful can you? Anyway, nobody nowadays seems to want to draw a discreet (kín đáo) veil over any private activity (hoạt động riêng tư) they might be indulging in (ham mê, chìm đắm).
