"Like oil and water" nghĩa là gì?

"Like oil and water" = như nước với dầu -> nghĩa là không thể hoặc không muốn hòa hợp với nhau dễ dàng, thường nói về hai yếu tố, hai lực lượng hoặc con người.

Ví dụ
When I met Jen Tullock at a birthday party a decade (thập niên) ago, we were like oil and water; we didn’t understand each other and had very little interest in trying. After a week of sharing dead lunch shifts at the same Brooklyn diner, however, it became clear that we were just different sides of the same anxious (lo lắng) , theater nerd (mọt sách), ex-homeschooler coin.

Pablo Sandoval and the Boston Red Sox mixed like oil and water. When Sandoval signed (kí) a five-year, $90 million contract (hợp đồng) with the Red Sox prior to the 2015 season, he was supposed to bring a championship pedigree (dòng dõi) and a solid bat (gậy bóng chày). Instead, the veteran (cựu chiến binh) third baseman was a complete flop, batting .245 in 2015 and appearing in just three games over the next two seasons before Boston released him in July 2017.

Nicknames like the “Intimidator” and “jokester” go together like oil and water. But Michael Waltrip’s bright light and the rough, country edge of Dale Earnhardt created a friendship (tình bạn) that chased (theo đuổi) victories both on and off the track.
