"Put off the evil day" = hoãn lại cái ngày quỷ ám -> chần chừ, trì hoãn hoặc để lại nhiệm vụ, hoạt động hay sự kiện nào dự báo là sẽ rất khó khăn, tốn sức/nhọc công.

Ví dụ
The tribunal said: ‘His misconduct (hành vi sai trái) had extended over a 13-month period. He had not directly benefitted save that he put off the evil day of having to account for his inactivity in respect to his clients (khách hàng)’ claims.

However, Mr Justice Peter Kelly said having engaged in tactical (chiến lược) attempts to put off the evil day and continued to engage in a car dealing racket, John Kane had still not made a clean breast (chống cự) of it and put his hands up.

"Heavyweight (nặng ký)? Are you referring (ám chỉ) to the size of my belly (bụng) by that?” he booms, before relenting. “Yes. We want to put off the evil day when we become slow and inflexible (kém linh hoạt) as long as possible. We get up every morning and sing to ourselves about; ‘I am going to be flexible today.’ We worry like mad about it and that paranoia (hoang tưởng), I think, is half the battle in retaining it.”
