"The lady or the tiger" là cụm từ chỉ một vấn đề nan giải mà không ai biết được kết quả và hướng giải quyết cho nó. Câu thành ngữ bắt nguồn từ câu chuyện cùng tên của nhà văn Frank R. Stockton được xuất bản đầu tiên vào năm 1882 trong tạp chí The Century.

The choice was love or politics — the lady or the tiger — and the mayor (chủ tịch thành phố) opted (chọn) for his girlfriend.
