“Thin as a rake” = gầy như cái bồ cào -> gầy đét, rất gầy, thường nghe ở Anh. Tương tự “thin as a stick/ rail/ lath”.
Ví dụ
A white, freckled (tàn nhang) child with curly ginger hair, skinny as a rake and with a mouth full of teeth more appropriate for a puppy than a boy, which he did everything to hide.
One of the bank’s top 10 investors, who Mr Bramson has been courting over a series of lunches and meetings, described him as “a strange bloke (gã lạ lùng), doesn’t really eat, thin as a rake."
His limbs (chân tay) are still rangy (dài và gầy) though he swears he has shrunk (co lại) a couple of inches from his once 6ft 6in(-ish) frame. Back then, he had a 19in waist and was rake-thin.
African women are generously curvy (đường cong đẹp). Most have big bottoms, wide hips and large bosoms (ngực to). This was what I grew up with and being as thin as a rake I was desperately unhappy (vô cùng khổ sở) and wanted a bit of that flesh on me.
