"Man plans and God laughs" = Mưu sự tại nhân, thành sự tại thiên -> Chỉ trích/bình phẩm chiều hướng con người lập những kế hoạch vì không có sự đảm bảo rằng các kế hoạch đó sẽ có kết quả hoặc thực hiện được.

Ví dụ
It’s been said that “man plans and God laughs.” It’s a truism (chân lý hiển nhiên) that was confirmed in Sooke resident Shawn Driver’s mid-August foray (sự đánh phá) to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where his dream of pushing his 1953 Studebaker to 300 mph was stymied (ngăn trở) by bad weather.

Why, then, is it so hard for some people to find a marriage partner and build a family? Marriage, sex and children are the among the most natural of human desires, and being unable to achieve them is excruciatingly painful (vô cùng đau đớn). I guess that’s why they say, “Man plans and God laughs.”

It’s a harsh (khắc nghiệt) fact of life that people get divorced, fall out or pass away. But it’s a happy fact of life that people reconcile (cam chịu, giải hòa), have their own families or re-build their lives. The old Yiddish proverb says ‘man plans and God laughs’, but letting your will become irrelevant (không liên quan) is no laughing matter. So as your life changes, it’s well worth thinking about changing your will to reflect (phản ánh) your circumstances.
