"Read the room" nghĩa là gì?

'Read the room' = dùng trực giác để phán đoán tâm trạng trung của mọi người trong một nơi/địa điểm nào đó để có cách cư xử và hành động phù hợp, một kiểu 'lựa tình thế mà cư xử'.

Reading the room is a golden skill (kĩ năng), and it’s even more important in an emerging industry like cannabis. For David, reading the room meant knowing that the industry had matured to the point where others were well-positioned to carry on the work that he started.

“I’m experienced enough in meetings that I’m calm (bình tĩnh) and I’m able to communicate effectively,” she said. “I have what I consider to be emotional intelligence in that I can read the room. I think I’d be a good fit to bring the board together and try to find consensus on issues.”

People subconsciously (theo tiềm thức) read the room long before anything is spoken. Employees have a gut feeling that they are about to get reamed out before it happens. Going in with the intention of keeping the situation calm and positive, will not only calm your own nerves, but create an atmosphere where the employee can relax, and the two of you can work together.
