It’s a matter of convenience (tiện ích, thuận tiện), you see, so cut this sentimental obsession (ám ảnh về mặt cảm xúc) with all things past and old, I tell myself, trying to play the devil’s advocate.

It is a tragedy (thảm kịch), one we must all attempt to mitigate (làm bớt, dịu nhẹ) but would you allow me to play the Devil’s advocate here? This is BeachGrit, after all, the biggest little surf website in the world where anti-depressiveness (chống lại sự chán nản, buồn phiền) is a way of life and the glass is always half full.

“It is dehumanizing (vô nhân đạo, làm mất tính người) to people of color to have their humanity treated as something that is up for debate (tranh luận),” Oluo said. “I routinely see, especially in social media, but even in person, especially in college campuses, this competitive one-upmanship (thuật giành (giữ) lợi thế đối với người khác) of who can say the right thing and who can make the most points or who can play the devil’s advocate, and what you’re talking about are people’s lives.”
