"Puff piece" nghĩa là gì?

Sao nãy giờ toàn mấy bài gì đâu không vậy? Photo by BBH Singapore on Unsplash

"Puff piece" có từ puff là lời tâng bốc láo, lời quảng cáo khuếch khoác -> cụm từ này nghĩa là bài viết mà chỉ toàn đưa ra những lời khen ngợi, tâng bốc quá mức mà thiếu đi những lời bình phẩm sâu sắc.

Ví dụ
Oh look. One of BBC R4 Today's resident Tories, Nick Robinson, doing a puff piece on Boris Johnson. Astonishing (ngạc nhiên, lạ lùng) that this mendacious (điêu, sai sự thật), philandering, lying, cheating sociopath (người bệnh tâm thần) is still revered by the BBC. What a sad reflection (điều gây tiếng xấu) on a once great institution.

Part of my disappointment stemmed surely from (xuất phát từ) so much pre-publicity: if I read one puff piece in last week’s supplements for how Engle had tracked down Cohen where Interpol and hired hitmen had failed I must have read a full two dozen: when the BBC hype machine gets wind of a Thomas Crown-style global chase, it doesn’t know how to let go. After so much ramping up, it was almost bound to fall short.

"I was offered a job on three times my salary, that's a fact. I brought it to the (FAI) board. I didn't take the job, I didn't want the job, I am very happy in this job," he told the team from Sky Sports in 2013 when the channel did a feature on him. That puff piece on Delaney included a scene where the cameras rolled as Delaney put in his standard daily school-run phone call to his twins, had the news that Clones Town FC had decided to name their ground after him and also informed its UK-based audience that Delaney was about to head off to the US for a trip which included a meeting with Barack Obama.
