...the latest products of eason, Keenan Systems (an Irish firm which makes feed-mixing wagons) have gone digital. With the help of Intel, Keenan has developed a computer that can be attached to its wagons (xe bò, xe ngựa). Every day the firm’s nutritionists (nhà nghiên cứu về lĩnh vực dinh dưỡng) load the computer with the herd’s dietary requirements (yêu cầu về chế độ ăn uống). Sensors (cảm biến) on the wagon weigh what the farmer puts into the mixer (người trộn, máy trộn) and compare it with what the recipe (công thức nấu ăn/dinh dưỡng) calls for. The collected data (dữ liệu được thu thập) are transmitted (được truyền) over the mobile-phone network to the nutritionists, who can analyse (phân tích) any deviations (sự trệch, sự lệch, sự trệch hướng; (nghĩa bóng) sự sai đường, sự lạc đường, sự lạc lối, sự xa rời) from the ideal (lý tưởng) in what the animals were fed. A big deviation triggers (làm nổ ra, gây ra; khởi sự một hành động, khởi sự một quá trình) a text message to the farmer. Smaller ones are noted, and the feed mix for the following day tweaked to correct any nutritional deficits that might have crept in.
Cainthus, another Irish company, is one of several startups hoping to use computer vision to boost farmyard productivity. It uses cameras to track cows in barns (chuồng bò, ngôi nhà thô sơ) and fields (cánh đồng), relying on machine learning (máy học) to analyse the images. The technology is sensitive (nhạy) enough to track individual animals, and to alert farmers if a cow is not feeding when it should be, or moving in a way that suggests it might be sick.
An alternative approach is to put the sensors inside the cows themselves. An Austrian firm called smaxtec has developed a sensor that can be swallowed (có thể nuốt được). It lodges (ở, cư trú, trọ) inside the reticulum (màng lưới, mô lưới), one of a cow’s four stomachs (dạ dày), and stays there for the rest of the animal’s life, monitoring (theo dõi, giám sát) body temperature, movement and stomach acidity.
