"Stage-door Johnny" có từ "stage-door" là cửa vào của diễn viên (ở sau sân khấu). Từ này chỉ người đứng chờ (ở khu vực cửa ra vào) hòng gây sự chú ý tới người khác (tìm kiếm mối quan hệ yêu đương lãng mạn), người đang muốn tán tỉnh ai.
