The Chinese government has released new rules aimed at curbing (kiềm chế, hạn chế) video game addiction (nghiện) among young people, a problem (vấn đề) that top officials (giới chức) believe is to blame (đổ lỗi) for a rise (gia tăng) in nearsightedness (cận thị) and poor academic performance (kết quả học hành yếu kém) across a broad (trên diện rộng) swath of society.

...The limits are the government’s latest attempt (nỗ lực) to rein in (chế ngự) China’s online gaming industry, one of the world’s largest, which generates more than $33 billion in annual revenue and draws hundreds of millions of users.

...“We have to develop new things to replace games,” he said. “Our minds should be focused on building more stadiums (xây thêm sân vận động), football courts (sân bóng đá) and basketball courts (sân bóng rổ).”
