"Kick over the traces" nghĩa là gì?

"Kick over the traces" = Đá/phi đứt cương ngựa -> Kháng cự lại, không chịu sự kiềm thúc gò ép; chống lại mọi lề thói truyền thống hoặc quy định và thích làm theo ý mình.

Ví dụ
Josh's growing up years were on the family stud farm (trại ngựa giống), he was 11 when cancer claimed his mother's life. As a teenager he tended to kick over the traces.

"He didn't want to kick over the traces. He wasn't a man for tearing down the walls. He wanted to change things in a moderate (ôn hòa) and gradual way as opposed to going all out for particular demands."

Unfortunately we live in a time when decisive action is required of our leaders and in a moral sphere (chỗ đứng, vị trí trong xã hội) where moral dramas have to be played out even though the players are always flawed (mắc sai lầm). The resolution of this conundrum (câu hỏi hóc búa) has resulted in the drawing up of battle lines between those disposed to two very different responses to it. There are those such as Donald Trump and Boris Johnson who kick over the traces and thumb their noses at the ensuing moral condemnation (sự lên án, chỉ trích) (for example by creating an alternative narrative on Twitter) and those who try to double down on control of the ‘optics’ by which they are so hag-ridden.
