"Try (one's) damnedest" = Làm hết sức lực của mình, cố gắng hết khả năng.

Ví dụ
He is coaching at one of Brisbane's premier rugby (bóng bầu dục) schools and, he says, try his damnedest to locate the heir to Wallabies No.10 Bernard Foley.

“Try your damnedest not to do anything to embarrass (ngăn trở, làm bối rối) that, not to do anything that would upset that brand, because it doesn’t take but one to do it,” Ross said. “Please uphold yourself in the most utmost professional way that you can.”

Dern’s performance is informed by her passion for the subject matter. She feels very strongly about exonerating (giải tội, miễn cho) innocent Death Row inmates (bạn chung tù), just as Gilbert did. Seeing her as Gilbert try her damnedest to save Todd from death is a heartbreaking yet inspiring process. It’s also incredibly fascinating to witness the bond that a metalhead alcoholic and an upper-middle-class playwright (nhà viết kịch) form through empathy (đồng cảm) and compassion (lòng thương xót, trắc ẩn).
