"Die back" nghĩa là khô héo, héo úa, chết khô (nói về cây cối) do bệnh hoặc điều kiện khí hậu gây ra.

Ví dụ
Mr Berry and his colleagues pinpoint (xác định) November as the time when the vegetation (cây cối, thực vật) has died back enough for them to reach areas they have not been able to access and undertake a really deep clean.

This time last year, we were harvesting (thu hoạch) on average 400kg of bamboo shoots (măng trúc). We grew four different varieties (thứ, loại) on the farm, despite the drought conditions of the previous winter. This year, any shoots that tried to emerge from the soil have shrivelled (quắt, quăn lại) and died back. As the drought worsens, we will not be harvesting any at all this season.

Fig trees are capable of setting fruit on new growth, so sometimes we get production when they die back with winter cold. If yours are dying back totally to the ground each year, the plants are spending their energy on producing a tree, and not fruiting. We used to call fig trees "fig bushes" back in the '80s and '90s, even in Central Arkansas, since they often died back to the ground here, too.
