"Stand to lose (something)" = Đứng trước nguy cơ thất bại/mất mát cái gì -> Có khả năng sắp bị mất mát hoặc bị lấy đi cái gì.

Ví dụ
Jim Simon, the general manager of the American Sugar Cane League, says the adverse conditions (điều kiện khó khăn) have created a climate where farmers stand to lose up to 15% of profits compared to 2018.

However, PSG stand to lose more players from their academy (học viện) as they seek to keep one step ahead of the FFP monitors and Manchester City have reportedly been watching Tanguy Kouassi, a 17-year-old central defender (trung vệ) who also shone at the under-17 Euros and is viewed in Paris as a natural successor to Thiago Silva in the PSG back four.

There are certain issues that each party carries with them where they know they are weak and stand to lose votes. In order to be in a position of strength, the best thing is to take them off the table before a campaign begins. If you try to make corrections during a campaign, as Theresa May did with her disastrous (thảm họa) social care policy, you not only invite more scrutiny (sự rà soát, kiểm tra kỹ lưỡng) and prolong the time spent on losing terrain, you convey incompetence (kém cỏi, thiếu khả năng) and weak leadership.
