"Strain at a gnat" nghĩa là gì?

"Strain at a gnat" có từ "gnat" là con muỗi = căng thẳng quá mức vì những việc nhỏ như con muỗi -> thổi phồng hoặc quá chú ý vào những việc nhỏ nhặt và xem chúng một cách to tát.

Ví dụ
*It is the very nature of government to strain at a gnat and swallow a camel. Congress is run by lawyers. Did you ever ask a lawyer the time of day? He told you how to make a watch, didn’t he?

I sympathize with (đồng cảm) the letter writer to a degree (mức độ), in the sense that the Nazi ebay is so hypocritical (đạo đức giả) - like the biblical scribes (người sao chép kinh thánh) and Pharisees (người hình thức) who could strain at a gnat's ass to find fault, but couldn't care less that a skulk of foxes (đàn cáo) was marauding (cướp bóc) the chicken coop (chuồng gà).

The Work of The Messiah is to reconcile (thuyết phục) fallen man into oneness (tổng hòa) with God. That is a process that puts all who are a part of The Messiah’s Work on a journey that is exceedingly (cực kỳ) difficult. Sometimes we are up, sometimes we are down; but nevertheless, we are encouraged to get up, dust off, and keep moving toward the goal. So let us not be like the self-righteous (tự cho là đúng) hypocrites of that day when Jesus refused to accuse (buộc tội) the woman whom they say was found in adultery (ngoại tình). Let us not strain at “a gnat,” and swallow “the camel” of our own evil.
