"Take the veil" = Đeo khăn trùm, mạng che mặt -> Đi tu, trở thành bà xơ, nữ tu sĩ hoặc ni cô.

Ví dụ
Effectively disowned (chối, không công nhận), Suzanne has no choice but to take the veil, a commonly prescribed solution for many inconvenient women of her era (thời đại, kỷ nguyên).

You may not actually take the veil, but life in a nunnery (nữ tu viện) will start to hold attractions you never dreamed of when it was still your gang hanging tight against the world.

In the first, The Mirror, set in the early 16th century, a young woman, Oliva, prepares to become a nun. She has already lived in the convent (tu viện) in Venice for four years and is about to take the veil. While the arrival of an artist for whom Oliva is asked to sit ostensibly (có vẻ là, bề ngoài là) provides the focal (tiêu điểm) event, the immersive evocation (sự gọi lên tòa trên) of the small community of nuns and their battle with the city authorities is captivating.
