Trông ta dễ dãi lắm à? Photo by Tina Nord from Pexels

"Twist the lion's tail" = quấn đuôi sư tử -> khiêu khích, khích bác đối thủ. Ban đầu sử dụng để khiêu khích Anh Quốc (quốc huy nước này có hình con sư tử).

Ví dụ
At my big meetings I nearly always got in something about England, and I thought it very significant that my protests against twisting the lion’s tail were invariably (luôn luôn) greeted with a storm of applause (tràng vỗ tay).

Last July, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani threatened that if Trump expanded sanctions (lệnh trừng phạt) on Iranian oil he would retaliate (trả đũa) by closing the Strait of Hormuz to foreign ships. He told a group of ambassadors (đại sứ), “Mr. Trump! Do not twist the lion’s tail because you will regret.”

Given Great Britain’s tacit support (ngầm ủng hộ) for the Confederacy (Liên minh miền Nam/Hợp bang miền Nam) and American hopes that Canada would become the next territory (lãnh thổ) to be absorbed as the country continued to fulfill its Manifest Destiny, President Andrew Johnson was more than willing to let the Irish Republican Army twist the tail of the British lion.
