"Can't have it both ways" nghĩa là gì?

"Can't have it both ways" = khó có thể thuận đôi đường -> không thể cái gì cũng muốn (không thể giảm cân khi muốn ăn nhiều chẳng hạn). Ngược lại ta có thể nói "tries to have it both ways" hoặc "wants to have it both ways" khi người đó đạt được tất cả những gì họ muốn.
Ví dụ
It’s time for progressives (chủ nghĩa tiến bộ) to decide between embracing multiculturalism (đa văn hóa) or policing “cultural appropriation (chiếm đoạt văn hóa).” They can’t have it both ways.
We all want bigger displays (màn hình), or at least, a big display in a compact housing (khối nhỏ gọn). It’s also going to come as a relief to those calling for smaller phones. A folding device (thiết bị gập) means we can have it both ways.
If we don’t reverse course (đảo ngược tình thế) now, will anyone take anything we say about justice (công lý) and righteousness (sự công bằng) with any seriousness for decades to come? The answer is no. Evangelicals cannot have it both ways.
