"Take (something) on the nose" = cho một cú sưng mũi -> nghĩa là chịu/nhận hậu quả hoặc ảnh hưởng xấu của sự thất bại, thua cuộc và chịu thách thức lớn.

Ví dụ
Backed homophobic rugby star Israel Folau's stance gay people will go to hell, saying they should "take it on the nose".

In FIFA 20 terms, he's going places. He's got a potential 87 rating and starts with an 83 defending and 81 physicality. You want a defender with strong physicality somewhere, because eventually you're going to need to tussle with a big midfielder (trung vệ), and you need a defender that can take it on the nose and win these one on one battles.

That seems clear enough, but something disturbs me about all this. I guess companies and farmers have to take it on the nose if they transgress (vi phạm, vượt quá), because the council's process allows plenty of discretion (sự thận trọng, suy xét khôn ngoan) and time to get into line; but one council prosecuting (khởi tố) another seems daft to me. All that happens is the same ratepayers must shell out to enrich lawyers and the TRC.
