"Believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see" nghĩa là gì?

"Believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see" = đừng tin những gì bạn nghe được và chỉ tin một nửa điều bạn thấy -> thận trọng trước thông tin hoặc tin đồn bạn nghe được hay thấy được, đó chưa phải là tất cả sự thật.

Ví dụ
"You are young yet, my friend," replied my host, "but the time will arrive when you will learn to judge for yourself (tự đánh giá) of what is going on in the world, without trusting to the gossip (lời bàn tán) of others. Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see.

In his short story, “The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether,” Edgar Allan Poe wrote, “Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see.” If Poe was alive today and surfing the world wide web (lên mạng), he would probably rewrite it to include, “Believe nothing you read on the internet.”

Television ads won’t quit spewing out (nôn ra) one political promise after another. It’s going to be a long time until November, that is for sure. The best advice (lời khuyên) I ever received is to believe “nothing you hear and only half of what you see!” Who and what to believe is a true challenge.
