"Hang onto (something)" = giữ cái gì, vẫn có, tiếp tục cái gì, không mất.

In a way, it makes perfect sense that we’d hold onto such a concept. We want our meandering lives to make sense, to be worthwhile, and that especially applies to our pain. As Diane puts it, if she doesn’t do something with her damage, then it won’t be “good damage,” and all the abuse she suffered will have been for nothing.

The freeze will keep rents at current levels for all flats built before 2014. It was announced by Social Democrat Mayor Michael Mueller, who heads a coalition (sự liên kết, liên minh) authority alongside the Greens and Die Linke, last autumn. But it is opposed by Germany’s ruling Christian Democrats — who are the opposition in Berlin — and is subject to challenges in court, with some advising tenants (tá điền) to hang onto any savings in case the freeze is declared unlawful.

It’s fairly obvious why. Because of Bitcoin’s price volatility (tính chất không ổn định, tính chất có thể thay đổi đột ngột), people don’t want to hang onto it for very long. No one wants to get their paycheck only to find that it has halved in value by the time it comes to buy groceries. Also, optimists who think Bitcoin’s value will continue to go up on average over time will be reluctant (bất đắc dĩ) to part with it in exchange for something ephemeral (chóng tàn, phù du) like a pizza; better to hang onto the BTC and buy pizza with depreciating dollars instead.
