"Stretch a point" nghĩa là gì?

"Stretch a point" = kéo dãn vấn đề -> mô tả vấn đề một cách phóng đại so với sự thật, mặc dù có thể đúng một phần hoặc cho phép sự việc xảy ra dù không đúng với qui luật.

Ví dụ
We have stretched points, legitimately (hợp pháp) and logically we trust, in other areas of the structure.

I am not trying to stretch a point here, but sometimes Britain has more influence against overwhelming odds than its officials believe. Both Mrs Thatcher and John Major played a weak hand with skill because, as the Chinese do, they put politics above diplomacy.

The 1947 U.S.-drafted constitution (hiến pháp dự thảo) states that “the Japanese people forever renounce (từ bỏ) war as a sovereign right (chủ quyền) of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes (tranh cãi).” The wording is quite direct, but the government has shown itself willing to stretch a point.
